Video: Chris Heilmann - Working in the Now
Posted Dec 27th, 2008 by David Calhoun in videosHere’s a great talk by Chris Heilmann from Yahoo! about making standards-compliant webpages using frameworks. He addresses some interesting topics such as explaining the advantages of web standards to non-technies who probably wouldn’t know.
I think more importantly is how he explains that we’re in an age where people are competing for web services, and usually the cheapest offer ends up winning. The problem is that the cheapest offer, though affordable to the client, usually isn’t standards-compliant and is generally a very inferior product. So the market is being saturated by these cheaply-built webpages. And according to him, this mistake already happened in the past, and we’re sort of reliving it and feeling its effects.
